About Balvenie

Founded by William Grant immediately adjacent to his Glenfiddich site in 1892, Balvenie is one of the most craft-oriented distilleries in Speyside. It still grows its own barley at Balvenie Mains farm (though supplemented externally) and maintains traditional floor maltings producing around 15% of its own malted barley requirements. The distillery employs Scotland's last in-house team of coopers — three full-time craftsmen — who maintain and repair casks on site. Five pairs of large pot stills produce a rich, honeyed new make. Fermentation runs 70–90 hours in a mix of wooden and stainless steel washbacks. The DCS Compendium series, the DoubleWood (aged in bourbon then Oloroso sherry casks), and TUN 1509 exemplify Balvenie's deep exploration of wood influence.
