About Glen Scotia
Founded in 1832, Glen Scotia is one of the most storied — and troubled — distilleries in Scotland. The site has changed hands many times and was closed repeatedly, most notoriously after owner Duncan MacCallum drowned himself in the town's loch in 1930, following a financial fraud. Its ghost is said to walk the stillhouse floor. Drawing water from Crosshill Loch, the distillery uses a single pair of pot stills to produce a characterful, coastal new make at approximately 10–15 PPM (for standard expressions) and higher for the Double Cask Peated range. Fermentation runs 72–96 hours in stainless steel washbacks. Owned by the Loch Lomond Group since 2014, the distillery has undergone significant investment and quality improvements, with the 25 Year Old and Victoriana (deep-charred virgin oak finish) now among its most respected releases at auction.
