About Rosebank
Established in Falkirk in 1798 and closed by United Distillers (Diageo) in 1993 after a leak from a drainage pipe polluted the Forth & Clyde Canal, Rosebank was widely considered the finest example of the Lowland style. Its triple-distillation process — using a wash still, an intermediate still, and a spirit still in sequence — produced an exceptionally light, elegant, floral new make unusually complex for its delicacy. Water was drawn from the Forth & Clyde Canal. Surviving stocks, now between 30 and 40 years old, command premium prices at auction, particularly rare independent bottlings from Cadenhead's and the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. Ian Macleod Distillers, which acquired the brand and site, reopened production in 2023, reviving triple distillation in newly built copper stills to honour the original character.
